ENHANCING RAILWAY CAPACITY & QUALITY OF SERVICES THROUGH NEW OPERATING MODELS & PARTNERSHIPS FOR SEAMLESS REGIONAL INTEGRATION & TRADE

National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) in anticipation for the SARA Rail Conference 2024

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) is eagerly anticipating their participation in the upcoming Southern African Railways Association (SARA) rail conference. This event is seen as an excellent opportunity for NRZ to engage with the rail industry and its suppliers, particularly as they work towards the recapitalisation of the institution.

The current focus for NRZ is the mobilisation and implementation of its strategic plan, which aims to grow the rail sector sustainably and promote rail as an environmentally friendly mode of transport. NRZ is actively seeking to mobilise funding to support projects that will turn around the organisation. They plan to leverage the SARA conference to connect with potential funders and discuss key revitalisation projects aimed at improving infrastructure and rolling stock. NRZ’s goal is to raise approximately $531-533 million USD to revitalise their infrastructure and procure new rolling stock, including locomotives and wagons, to meet the demands of their growing industry.

This will also assist in alleviating the  bottlenecks caused by NRZ on the North-South corridor. The strategic plan being mobilised aims to reposition Zimbabwe as the natural transit route for traffic from the ports in South Africa and Mozambique to northern countries like Zambia, DRC, and Tanzania.

The NRZ team looks forward to fruitful discussions and collaborations at the conference, which they believe will be pivotal in driving the growth and sustainability of Zimbabwe’s rail sector. Make sure you are at this year’s Southern African Railways Association Conference and Exhibition to be part of NRZ’s new trajectory!
