Being exponential is the philosophy driving Traxtion, one of the largest private rail freight operators in Africa. Active in eight countries on the continent, backed by a world-class rail services hub, and staffed by experts in their fields, Traxtion is a major player in the freight rail industry in South Africa and Africa.

Traxtion’s state-of-the-art rail services hub outside Pretoria offers both Traxtion and third parties a full suite of services from refurbishing and maintaining locomotives, training, and other technical services.

Traxtion has developed and nurtured a skilled team of in-house artisans with decades of experience in maintaining, rebuilding, and overhauling locomotives to OEM standards. The team are specialists in the repairing and maintenance of diesel and electric locomotives as well as rolling stock for mining, industrial, freight and state-owned enterprises throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

The hub incorporates a TETA-accredited training school where apprentice artisans complete an intensive 3-year course that culminates in a red seal trade test certificate.

Traxtion is a vital cog in enabling Africa’s mineral wealth to reach export ports, earning valuable revenue for governments, mining companies and others in these value chains. Their extensive fleet operates in Zambia, Senegal, Mozambique, Tanzania, the DRC, Zimbabwe, and Angola. In South Africa they support several mining houses to move minerals from mining and production shafts to refineries and plants.
