Republic Of Angola’s Ministry Of Transport To Participate In The 13th Southern African Railways Association Conference And Exhibition

The Republic of Angola’s Ministry of Transport has confirmed that the Honourable Mr Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, Minister of Transport, along with a delegation from the Ministry, will attend the upcoming 13th Southern Africa Railways Association (SARA) International Conference & Exhibition. The event is scheduled to take place from August 20th to 23rd, 2024, at the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Minister D’Abreu has expressed his confidence that the SARA conference will serve as a valuable platform to foster the exchange of expertise and insights on enhancing railway performance and its subsequent positive impact on regional economies. Angola will also be participating in the Panel Discussion featuring SADC Ministers of Transport, focusing on the critical role of governments in revitalising the railway sector.

The Ministry of Transport is pleased that the SARA event comes at an opportune moment to highlight the crucial role of the Lobito Corridor for Southern African economies. As a vital trade route connecting Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Atlantic Ocean, the Lobito Corridor holds immense potential to stimulate regional economic growth and development.

The Angolan delegation is looking forward to learning about the latest advancements in the railway industry, including cutting-edge technologies and innovations. The opportunity to network with OEMs, industry suppliers and fellow colleagues from across Southern Africa is also greatly anticipated.

The Southern African Railways Association (SARA) is the mandated rail transport body for the SADC region, playing a pivotal role in advancing railway development not just in Southern Africa but across the entire continent through its network of railway operator members. SARA’s efforts are integral to enhancing the efficiency and connectivity of Africa’s rail networks, thereby boosting continental trade and contributing to the sustainable development of the region.

This year’s theme, “Boosting Continental Trade via Rail: Investments in African Railways for the Sustainable Development of the Continent,” will be at the forefront of discussions, emphasising the importance of investment in railway infrastructure for the continent’s economic growth.
