The Southern African Railways Association (SARA) is pleased to welcome Galison Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd, to this year’s International Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Conference and Exhibition. The event is set to take place from 20 – 23 August 2024 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Sandton, South Africa.
This year’s theme, “Boosting Continental Trade via Rail: Investments in African Railways for the Sustainable Development of the Continent,” underscores the crucial role of railway investments in infrastructure and rolling stock, particularly wagons, in driving sustainable development across Africa and meeting the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Galison Manufacturing, a South African-based industry leader, specialises in the manufacture and supply of railway freight wagons and mining equipment. With decades of unparalleled quality and service in wagon manufacturing for the railway sector, Galison recently secured an order for 275 wagons for the Lobito Atlantic Railway.
Galison’s state-of-the-art factory in Welkom, South Africa, boasts the latest equipment, including CNC drills, profiling machines, presses and robotic welding. Over the past eight years, Galison has specialised in lightweight wagon construction, which is commonly used in Europe, and has developed several container and hopper wagon types built to these designs that have been successfully deployed in the market.
Expanding its presence within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Galison-made wagons will soon be operational across nearly all its member countries, including South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, and the DRC, among others.
The Southern African Railways Association (SARA), the mandated rail transport body for the Southern African Development Community (SADC), plays a significant role in advancing railway development not just in Southern Africa, but across the entire continent through its railway operator members. SARA’s efforts are integral to enhancing the efficiency and connectivity of Africa’s rail networks, thereby boosting continental trade and contributing to the sustainable development of the region.
The SARA Conference and Exhibition provides a platform for industry leaders, stakeholders, and innovators to discuss and explore the latest advancements and opportunities in railway infrastructure and operations.
