Davies has over twenty years of experience in executive management, specialising in Corporate, Trade, and Project Finance as well as Investment Banking. His experience spans across Africa in investment and development finance structuring and sourcing funding for the private sector and sovereign entities in sectors including Energy (oil & gas, coal, renewables), Mining, ICT, Manufacturing, Agriculture, and Transport (ports, rail, and road).
He is currently collaborating with the Southern Africa Railway Association, leading an initiative to address railway infrastructure logistics in the SADC region to reduce the cost of doing business. This initiative focuses on alternative funding models to deliver the required logistic infrastructure without burdening sovereign states with guarantees. Davies is also heading an initiative with the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) to address the bankability of power generation projects by utilities and PPPs, given the weak fiscal positions of sovereigns and their inability to provide sovereign guarantees. This initiative aims to establish a regional fund with DBSA playing an underwriting role. DBSA is also advocating for serious consideration of PPP options, given Davies’s extensive experience in structuring and implementing PPPs in the region. The goal is for PPPs to become the sustainable development model for infrastructure delivery across Africa.
With extensive regional experience in infrastructure development from structuring, funding, and implementation—both in the private sector and sovereign entities—Davies is well-positioned to operate at a policy level in Transport (logistics), Energy, and Finance.
Davies holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Demography and Economics from the University of Zambia and an MBA in Finance from the University of Lincoln in the UK. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Development Finance at Wits University in South Africa.
